Purpose of this assignment

This assignment will help to develop all learners to understand the different types of abuse that can occur within the community, the signs of abuse and factors that
can contribute towards individuals being vulnerable. You will identify all the legislation and policies that are in place and how professionals work within the
guidelines and professional standards to safeguard both practitioners and users of health and social care services.
Scenario

You are a trainee social worker on work placement at Orchid View a home for the elderly run by Southern Cross which has had problems with abuse of residents through
neglect and errors. The home has previously been rated as ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission.

Please use the information in the Case Study link below for all three Tasks in the assignment:

Task 1 Abuse , Factors and contexts (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and M1, M2, D1, D2)

You are a trainee social worker on work placement at Orchid View. As part of your training requirement, you need to write an essay, which may be selected for

• An explanation of why vulnerable groups like those in the above case study may be vulnerable to abuse and/or harm to self and other (A.C. 1.1)

Through this speech you will have the opportunity to show how ineffective Orchid View was at implementing legislation and safeguarding policies to protect vulnerable
individuals. (That means Orchid View is an example of bad practice). In your speech use examples from the care sector and ensure that you :

• Analyse the strengths and weaknesses in current legislation and policy relating to those vulnerable to abuse (AC 2.1)

3: How strategy across the company creates the right environment, the right leadership, the right encouragement and the right rewards fulfiling its potential.

How would you help us achieve this?
(Min 100, Max 500 words)***********************

Review the R-R people strategy https://www.rolls-royce.com/sustainability/our-people.aspx#/
Focus on the three key strands:
Enabling business transformation – Embedding a simpler organisation to introduce greater performance enablement, helping our people achieve their potential every day.
Building strategic capabilities – Developing key organisational, leadership, technical and functional capabilities for future performance and growth.
Creating a lean, agile, high performance culture – Achieving our strategic goals requires that we have the right cultural elements that support our workforce to be
enabled, engaged and energised to drive performance and growth.
Instil a culture of constant development and improvement. Consider benchmarking against industry standards but also other sectors (outside engineering).
The environment must allow for/encourage an honest, open and frank exchange of ideas within the company. Shouldn’t just be words on the website – mgmt need to
demonstrate commitment.
Encourage staff, at all levels, to come forward with innovative ideas (that are appropriately rewarded). This doesn’t have to be monetary incentives it could be
through further training, professional qualifications or work shadowing etc. Might want to suggest a range of benefits/rewards from which staff can select. Perhaps
making them tailored to specific Divisions/Sectors within R-R.
Encourage a broad range of views/ideas – regular review sessions with broad range of staff – not just restricted to annual staff survey feedback.
Right environment – must be reflected at all levels of management and leadership must be visible – taking responsibility.
Consider the communications strategy and specifically the follow up – what happened as a result of the implementation of XYZ and how it improved the organisation by
ABC. Develop a core script that all managers have at hand.
Have vocal supporters across the Company. Consider a Roadshow, across the Company’s site, to highlight the success achieved and ‘How YOU can make a difference’.
Suggest you would look to lead on this (if invited for a Summer internship).
