One of the really interesting features of Defoe’s novel is its multiple “beginnings”.  It takes RC along time to actually start his sojourn on the island.  Is there anything in the first hundred pages of the novel that helps explain why this might be the case?  Why is it so hard to get Robinson’s story going?
