In Thinking Like a Psychological Scientist, the authors define faith as “whenever we adhere to a belief without
evidence…” (p. 172). In an original post respond to the following: Discuss whether you agree with this definition
of faith. Is faith a mental conviction, as the authors maintain, or is it an action based on such conviction? How
does the Bible describe faith (e.g., Hebrews 11; James 2:26)? Later, the authors state, “We may face situations
in which even good evidence does not provide certainty. … We may not have absolute certainty, but we use
our knowledge of probability to make decisions” (p. 180). Discuss a time in your life when you had to choose a
belief or make a decision based on probability. How might faith play a role in such situations?
