A Portfolio
Order Description
Instructions on Assessment:
Submit a Portfolio comprising the following elements:
1) A report not exceeding 1500 words on a contemporary management issue of your choice
2) A Personal Development Plan (PDP) – using the provided template
3) A collection of evidence that has informed the PDP, along with a short discussion (no more than 800 words) of how this evidence has informed your personal development plan (for example, by identifying areas of strength or weakness).
1. Report – Details (40 marks) 1500 words
A contemporary management issue is Managing Global reward strategies and practices
Your report will comprise the following sections:
1) Identify a contemporary management issue – this will require you to use evidence (for example from news media) of a current issue that affects managers (for example changes in legislation, public policy, social attitudes or the state of the economy). This should draw upon ideas from across the module.
2) Show how organisations/managers are responding to the issue. Again this requires you to use evidence and to incorporate knowledge and theory from the module to support your analysis.
3) Discuss which management skills should be used if managers are to respond to this issue well.
2. Personal Development Plan (40 marks): I uploaded Template for you. 800 words, in this part, you only need to fill in the template I gave you. About 800 words, using the following models
Your plan will include the following sections from your PDP workbook:
1) A personal SWOT analysis
2) A personal PEST analysis
3) An opportunity analysis
4) Personal development plan worksheet(s)
5) A development record
6) An action plan for the current year (this must include an indication of how you have utilised opportunities to improve your skills over the duration of the module) and the forthcoming 12 months
Evidence and reflection (20 marks): (700 words)
You will include:
1) Evidence which has informed the PDP, comprising the elements of directed learning that are marked ‘REQUIRED FOR ASSIGNMENT’ on the Teaching and Learning Plan. This must be submitted correctly using the supplied template.
2) A discussion to illustrate how you have reflected upon your learning and how these have informed aspects of your PDP. This need not be comprehensive, but should provide clear evidence of reflection.
Note on Sources
With particular reference to the knowledge/theory aspects of the assessment you should utilise good quality sources such as: academic Journals, textbooks, books, media outlets, professional publications and government publications are acceptable sources for your work. Generic websites such as wisegeeks, businessballs, tutor2U, Wikipedia and public blog sites are not acceptable sources. Actual quotations should include page number references or full website citation (see below).
Word limits and penalties for assignments
If the assignment is within +10% of the stated word limit no penalty will apply.
The word count is to be declared on the front page of your assignment and the assignment cover sheet. The word count does not include:
• Title and Contents page • Reference list • Appendices • Appropriate tables, figures and illustrations
• Glossary • Bibliography • Quotes from interviews and focus groups.
Please note, in text citations [e.g. (Smith, 2011)] and direct secondary quotations [e.g. “dib-dab nonsense analysis” (Smith, 2011 p.123)] are INCLUDED in the word count.
If this word count is falsified, students are reminded that under ARNA page 30 Section 3.4 this will be regarded as academic misconduct.
If the word limit of the full assignment exceeds the +10% limit, 10% of the mark provisionally awarded to the assignment will be deducted. For example: if the assignment is worth 70 marks but is above the word limit by more than 10%, a penalty of 7 marks will be imposed, giving a final mark of 63.
Students are advised that they may be asked to submit an electronic version of their assignment.
Time limits and penalties for presentations
The time allocated for the presentation must be adhered to. At the end of this time, the presentation will be stopped and will be marked based on what has been delivered within the time limit.
Submission of Assessment:
All assignments must be submitted via the Undergraduate Programme Office. Each assignment must be accompanied by an Assessed Work Form which must be completed in full. The assignment will not be accepted by the Undergraduate Programme Office unless the form is completed correctly.
Marked assignments will be returned to students. It is advisable to retain a copy of your assignment for you own records. Your mark will be returned on the Assessed Work Form via the Undergraduate Programme Office.
