You have recently been appointed as a planning officer for the National Trust’s Land and Landscape Management Team. The national trust is one of the largest land owners in England and Wales and the team is responsible for looking after the National Trust’s large rural land holdings which includes 250,000 hectares of countryside and 775 miles of coastline . The team’s activities are guided by the Trust’s ten year strategy Playing our Part: What does the nation need from the National Trust in the 21st century? (National Trust, 2015) which includes the following vision: ‘Our 21st century ambition is to meet the needs of an environment under pressure, and the challenges and expectations of a fast-moving world. We want to continue to maintain the highest standards of care for everything we look after, while working in a way that feels relevant and necessary to people and their day-to-day lives
