From our talks today, you all are already sounding like professionals on your topics, and that’s so exciting to
hear! It means you’re doing good research, and really taking on topics that are meaningful to you. I very much
look forward to reading your abstracts.
Fr this assignment, you will create a working title for your paper/project, and write an abstract as if you were
submitting to a conference. One purpose of an abstract is to provide a summary of the outcomes of your
research. More than “results”, outcomes can include new questions you have, new ways of looking at existing
information, etc. Remember, “research” in the art world includes artwork—so the work you’re making is
research just as much as the sources you’re reading are. An abstract is also intended to catch the attention of
a conference jury, so be clear about what your new research is, and convey what’s interesting or exciting about
it. Your abstract should be a minimum of 200 words, maximum of 300.
