Addressing domestic violence - State responsibility
Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a global issue that signifies the deeply
rooted and persistent nature of gender inequality. This article allows us to question how state responses are
often inadequate in their approach to VAWG.
1) Discuss how the federal and provincial political climate impacts this long-standing public health issue.
Please refer to the article in your response.
2) Using this article as a guide, review your clinical placements/work placement policies on domestic
violence (which may also be called, gender based violence or VAWG). Discuss whether the policy takes a
'cookie-cutter approach' as described in the article. If it does not do so, clearly articulate how the policy
addresses VAWG differently. For those of you who may not have had a clinical placement and are in virtual
spaces, identify how virtual spaces account for domestic violence.
