Answer the following questions in the paper:
Topic Questions:
1. What neurobiological disease or disorder did you choose to research, and why? How is it related to what we have learned in this class?
2. What is the neurobiological basis of this condition?
3. How does this condition present in humans, and how is it diagnosed?
4. How is the disorder treated or managed in patients? What is the common prognosis or patient outcome?
5. What further questions do you have about the cause, treatment, or resolution of the condition?
Comparison of Media and Research:
• Briefly summarize the media article or video. What question(s) were the authors trying to answer about the disorder? What is their main statement about the research study cited in the piece?
• Briefly summarize the research article.
o What is the hypothesis (or hypotheses) of the research article? What novel question is addressed?
o What was the experimental design for the experiment (subjects, steps, manipulation, etc.)?
o What were the results of the experiment (you can use or cite data from the figures)?
o What were the authors' conclusions based on the results?
o What is the main takeaway message from this article? What makes this paper interesting and valuable to research on your selected topic (or is it?)?
o Do you believe that the author's conclusions are justified based on the data? Why or why not?
• How does the media article do well portraying the experimental data? What aspects of the research are not as accurately presented?
o HINT: There will always be things they get both right and wrong!
• Does your comparison of the research or media article change your opinion of the value of the media article? Of the research article?
• If you were designing the next experiment, what research question would you ask, based on the outcome of these data?
