Aftermath of World War I
Prompt #1
In the aftermath of World War I, we see the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire and the emergence of a number of successor states. Two of those states are inextricably linkedâTurkey and Armenia. Looking at Löwenheim and Türkmen-DerviÅoÄlu's articles, primarily, but also any other sources you wish to incorporate, go into detail about how Turkish-Armenian relations have developed in throughout the 20th century and into the 21st century. What factors shape the 'official' relationship between the two? Why has Turkey been hesitant to "officially" acknowledge the Armenian Genocide? How has this shaped Armenian experience in Turkey, Armenia, and in the diaspora? What role does the diaspora play with regards to Armenian-Turkish relations? Finally, conclude by talking about one specific thing from the readings that you found most interesting. This could be from any reading, including the supplemental ones.
