One example of how I advocated for a patient is when I was working as a nurse in a hospital. I had a patient who was an elderly woman who had been admitted for a hip fracture. She was very scared and anxious, and she was having trouble understanding her care plan. I took the time to sit down with her and explain everything to her in a way that she could understand. I also helped her to develop a realistic care plan that she felt comfortable with.

As a result of my advocacy, the patient was able to make informed decisions about her care and she felt more in control of her situation. She was also more likely to comply with her care plan, which led to better outcomes.

Advocating for this patient helped me to grow as a leader in a number of ways. First, it helped me to develop my communication skills. I learned how to explain complex medical information in a way that is easy for patients to understand. Second, it helped me to develop my empathy skills. I learned to see things from the patient's perspective and to understand her fears and concerns. Third, it helped me to develop my problem-solving skills. I learned how to work with the patient to develop a care plan that met her needs and that she was comfortable with. Evaluation One example of strategic planning in my workplace is the development of a new electronic medical record (EMR) system. The hospital's leadership team spent several years planning and implementing the new EMR system. They involved staff from all levels of the organization in the planning process, and they provided training to staff on how to use the new system. The implementation of the new EMR system has been a success. It has improved patient care by providing clinicians with easier access to patient information. It has also improved efficiency by automating many tasks that were previously done manually. However, there have been some challenges associated with the implementation of the new EMR system. One challenge is that the system is complex and it took time for staff to learn how to use it. Another challenge is that the system has some glitches that have caused problems for clinicians and patients. Overall, the strategic planning process for the new EMR system was effective. However, there are some areas where the hospital could have done better, such as providing more training to staff and testing the system more thoroughly before implementing it. Evaluation The organizational structure at my workplace is a hierarchical structure. This means that there is a clear chain of command, with managers and supervisors at the top and employees at the bottom. The hierarchical structure has a number of advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that it is efficient and it allows for clear decision-making. Another advantage is that it provides employees with a sense of structure and stability. However, the hierarchical structure can also be rigid and bureaucratic. It can also stifle creativity and innovation. The hierarchical structure at my workplace influences the mission, vision, philosophy, and values of the organization in a number of ways. The mission of the organization is to provide high-quality care to patients. The hierarchical structure helps to ensure that the organization is able to achieve its mission by providing clear lines of communication and accountability. The vision of the organization is to be a leader in healthcare. The hierarchical structure helps to ensure that the organization is able to achieve its vision by providing a framework for strategic planning and decision-making. The philosophy of the organization is to be patient-centered. The hierarchical structure helps to ensure that the organization is able to achieve its philosophy by providing a clear chain of command and accountability. The values of the organization are integrity, compassion, and excellence. The hierarchical structure helps to ensure that the organization is able to achieve its values by providing a framework for ethical decision-making and by rewarding employees who demonstrate these values. Evaluation The most effective power-building strategies that I have found for enhancing my personal power are:
  • Developing expertise: The more expertise I have in my field, the more valuable I am to my organization and the more power I have.
  • Building relationships: By building relationships with key people in my organization, I am able to gain their support and influence their decisions.
  • Communicating effectively: By being able to communicate my ideas clearly and persuasively, I am able to influence others and get things done.
The least effective power-building strategy that I have found is self-promotion. I have found that it is more effective to let my accomplishments speak for themselves than to try to promote myself. I have also found that it is important to use my power responsibly. I try to use my power to help others and to make the organization a better place. Overall, I believe that the most effective power-building strategies are those that are based on expertise, relationships, communication, and responsibility.
