Analysis of Mechanical Energy Transport

Goal 1: To give you a reasonable knowledge of the basic concepts of physical science
Goal 3: To prepare you to use physical science in your own life and profession by providing interesting and
relevant applications that are clearly understandable from physical principles.
(CLO4) Draw conclusions from inquiries based on scientific knowledge and principles, the use of logic, and
evidence (data) from investigations: aligns with (Goal 1) (Goal 3)
This project also explicitly supports the Information Literacy component of RPCC’s General Education
Outcomes
In addition to the Course Goals and Course Learning Outcomes listed above, once you have successfully
completed this activity you will be able to do the following:
Use library resources and internet resources to find a peer-reviewed research article (Information Literacy)
Evaluate the article to determine if it meets established criteria (Information Literacy)
Summarize a peer-reviewed research article in your own words that meets established criteria (Information
Literacy)
Relate the material in a research article to information covered in class (CLO2) (CLO3) (CLO4)
Use APA format to format a paper, and cite a journal article (Information Literacy)
Directions:
A peer-reviewed research journal article is to be read and summarized in your own words. You must also,
clearly communicate how this article relates to what you have studied in lecture or lab (depending on which
class you are registered in).
The summary is to be a minimum of two pages in length, typed double space in 12-point font. Use APA format
for the layout and structure of the paper (margins. Spacing, etc.) Use APA format except you do not need an
abstract since your summary is a kind of abstract already. In addition, do not use in-text citations. In-text
citations are not needed since your entire summary is pertaining to only the one article that you are using, and
you do not have multiple sources. Also, if you quote material from the article, use quotation marks and put the
page number in parenthesis after you close the quote. Use the picture templates in the Project folder on
Canvas as guides (spacing in pictures is not to APA scale).
Include a reference page with the submission of your summary. Be sure to cite your article using APA style.
The only item that should be listed on your reference page is the article that you are summarizing. Do not
include citations for Wikipedia, books, or other articles since they are not valid sources for this project. Only
your article is to be used to complete this project! If you do not include a properly formatted reference page
with your submission, you will automatically lose 5 points in the Mechanics/Requirement category that is listed
on the Project Scoring Rubric.
