Subtypes

 

Covetous- characterized by envy and a desire for what others possess. They may engage in theft or exploitation purely out of a sense of entitlement and comparison to others.

Nomadic- often restless, frequently moving locations, and lacking stable attachments. Their disregard for rules is often secondary to a desire for constant change and excitement.

Malevolent- marked by cruelty, aggression, and a strong propensity for violence. They derive pleasure from inflicting pain and are often predatory.

Risk-taking- driven by high levels of sensation-seeking and impulsivity. They engage in reckless behaviors without calculating consequences, often placing themselves and others in danger.

Reputation-defending- concerned with maintaining a tough, intimidating image. Their antisocial acts are often reactive, occurring when they feel their status or honor has been challenged.

The DSM-5 criteria for ASPD require a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others, occurring since age 15, as indicated by three or more of the following: failure to conform to social norms, deceitfulness, impulsivity, irritability and aggressiveness, reckless disregard for safety, consistent irresponsibility, and lack of remorse. The diagnosis also requires evidence of Conduct Disorder before age 15, and the occurrence of antisocial behavior must not be exclusively during the course of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
