You are asked to consult on a patient being seen in primary care. The patient is 65 year old John. John’s primary care provider relays that John has suffered from symptoms of anxiety for years. John will wake up feeling great, and then without provocation he develops a sense of panic. His heart races, he feels nauseated, he feels dizzy, and he is certain he is dying. His son is a physician, and John calls his son at least once a week certain he is having a heart attack. He has undergone extensive physical exams and evaluations and is truly in excellent health. He takes no medications and has no drug allergies. Please help the health care provider; what would you recommend and why?
