The Chinese government implemented a law to control the number and gender of children. The intention was
to limit population growth (economic stability) and also to build a sustainable military (adequate number of male
children). At a societal level, male children are preferred to carry on the family name and legacy. As is evident,
approaches to moral reasoning may make sense but have unethical consequences.
