DEPARTMENT: Athletic Based Training (Sports Performance Gym) – Management
Each location is currently using their own system. Location A is unable to access location B, thus making the immediate sharing of documents impossible. Employees and clients do not have access to company information. Communication is limited to email service and personal use of cell phones. Company would like to increase professionalism and create a brand equal to its larger competitors.
SERVICE REQUEST (Briefly describe the redesign. Include who/what/why/where/when.):
Implementing Google Apps for Work. A subscription based, cloud computing software suite will offer the applications needed to provide effective business solutions such as storage with employee and client access, a business email service using the company’s domain name, a communication service to correspond with both employees and clients, and online editing to create documents necessary for the function and marketing of the business. It needs to be developed by December 7, 2015.

A sports performance gym is somewhat similar to Crossfit Gyms, as in they are not work out areas with cardio equipment and exercise machines, rather they are smaller in space and provide free weights and squat racks. Free body movements are mainly the exercises that are performed (squats, lunges, presses, curls). They also focus on agility performance, which are short, explosive movements meant to improve a clients strength and improve speed. These gyms are great for students ages 8 through college, as most of the students get personalized programs to follow depending on the sport they are training for. Adults also utilize these gyms in Bootcamp style workouts. They provide strength and interval training for maximum results.
As you can see employee to employee communication as well as employee to client communication is very necessary for the function of this gym. Google Apps would provide that, as well as the ability to create an online forum, a more professional service creating documents, and allow video chat with customers.
The gym I worked for has 2 locations, each in a separate town. The only storage they have is the desktops at each location. Neither location can access the other. There is no security really set in place, other than the the anti-virus software. The accounting is done from an outside source, so neither location handles money transactions. Communication is done via email using Yahoo or through the use of personal cell phones. Video chat is never used. Documents are created using Word and must be emailed to oneself or printed at location A to get it to location B. Clients do not have access to any information other than what is sent on facebook. The name of the gym is Athletic Based Training…we can utilize this scenario if it helps make things easier, as Google Apps for work will add a whole new functionality to the gym.
