"Blue-Collar Brilliance"
1. Mike Rose brings up a few issues in "Blue-Collar Brilliance": Affirmation of diverse intelligence, broad
range of intellectual capacity, social separations, and cultural divides. This week, speak with one "bluecollared worker" via email or phone or text etc., and chat with them about what Mike Rose says. Ask their
opinion and share on this discussion board. You do not need to share the identity of the interviewee unless
they agree to it.
2. Having received a real-life opinion on the above topic (Blue-collar brilliance), state your learning from the
interview.
3. Explain the logic in Graff's argument that schools should encourage students to think critically, read, and
write about areas of personal interest such as cars, fashion, or music. What do you think about such a
proposal? Do you see merits or demerits or both?
4. What attempts does St. Cloud University make to bring about diversity and tolerance? What could they
do differently or what more could they do to achieve their goal of becoming a beacon of diversity and
tolerance?
