An expository essay is “where you thoroughly expose the inner workings of a topic and teach the reader something new” (Tepper, 2014). An expository essay typically contains:
an introductory paragraph outlining your thesis statement (the problem topic and question you are addressing, along with the position you will take when addressing the problem)
body paragraphs (typically 3 – 6 paragraphs discussing your statement, using supporting evidence)
conclusion paragraph/s (a summary discussion of your essay key points with recommendations or next steps).
