Care about social research
The reading lists the three main reasons why we should care about social research as, first, research is powerful. Second, research skills are in high demand, and third, knowing about social research makes you a better consumer of research. While I believe all three reasons are valid within our field of study, I consider the first to be the most important. Proper research is powerful, you can arm yourself with information that could sway others to make specific decisions or choices. "In producing knowledge, you have the opportunity to influence what others know and think as well as the actions they may take (Gordon, 2019)". We are in an age of uncertainty and upheaval, arming yourself and your voice with proper research enables you to get your message heard and understood. Consider attempting to earn money for a youth center, without having proper research to show how many children could be helped, where funding is most needed, what tools these specific children need you are asking for nothing more than a personal handout. Armed with the proper research you have the ability to show that you have a mission and get your mission understood.
Ethics is the foundation for all research. I believe GCU would like us to pay attention to this specific section in order to understand the power of our choices. When you conduct research on a group of people, they surrender infor-mation about themselves to you, and you get to decide how that information will be used (Gordon, 2019). Maintaining ethics in all our research enables our information to be trusted by both the subjects as well as the consumers. Additionally, without personal ethics we loose credibility for ourselves and for the University.
