See the case titled âHome Pharmaceuticalsâ from the study desk. This case will be used for both Case Study 1 and Case
Study 2. Please read the case very carefully. Please note also the forecasted growth for Home Pharmaceuticals by SBU
Asia Pacific plus carefully review all of the financial data included. Based on the facts in the case, you are required to
prepare answers for each of the following: (Please Note: All words in Tables and Figures are not included in word count.)
1.0 Summarise the Industry & Market Information
Based on the information provided, summarise the industry and market background for Home Pharmaceuticals. Place this
in your own words and be careful not to repeat case facts. Some key themes you may want to address in this summary is
the current industry trends, state of competition, scale of growth going forward and how the industry is trending, state of
the market and market demand for particular SBU products and any other facts that might be relevant background that can
be used in preparing future strategies.
2.0 Industry Analysis I (Note: See Case Study 1 Template on Study Desk)
2.1 PESTEL Analysis: Draw the PESTEL framework similar to page 115 of the text of your chosen organisation
competing in its industry. Use bullet points in each box to list the points you want to emphasize;
2.2 Element Narrative: See the text page 115-117 of Grant et al, 2014. For each of the six elements listed, describe
and outline how the environmental conditions within each might influence the organisations decisions going forward.
2.3 Collect Evidence: Note: Find evidence to support your PESTEL. Extra marks will be awarded to those who use
quotations and references other than the text and course readings showing clear evidence that the topic has been
researched and article or publication(s) has been read. You should quote theory in such a way that it supports the
framework you produce.
3.0 Industry Analysis II (Note: See Case Study 1 Template on the Study Desk)
3.1 Five Forces: Develop a Five Forces model similar to Page 134 of the text. Use the addition of
complements if appropriate. Draw the figure similar to P134. However, populate each box with bullet points of the
main features or forces listed from p.121-134.
3.2 Forces Narrative: Each main component of your five forces should also be explained in written
narrative. That is, immediately below your figure, now summarise each of the forces and why or
why/not these are relevant to the forces you selected.
3.3 Collect Evidence: Extra marks will be awarded to those who use quotations and references other than the text
and course readings showing clear evidence that the topic has been researched and article or publication(s) has been
read (e.g. see readings in modules). You should quote theory in such a way that it supports the model you produce.
4.0 Industry Analysis III (Note: See Case Study 1 Template on the Study Desk)
4.1 KSF Table: Draw up a KSF Table similar to the Case Study 1 Template on the Study Desk. See also p.145 of the
text. Identify the external forces of the industry your chosen company competes in, list the likely industry response as
a whole (i.e. how the whole industry is currently (or should be) responding to these forces, then list the key success
factors going forward. That is, how all companies competing in the industry can be successful. These same key
success factors you identify will be helpful to you when you develop a range of strategies going forward in case study

4.2 KSF Narrative: Choose five (5) of the most important key success factors for the industry. Write a supporting
paragraph explaining why you have chosen each key success factors (KSFs) to support your Table.
4.3 Collect Evidence: Extra marks will be awarded to those who use quotations and references other than the text
showing clear evidence that the topic has been researched and the article or publication(s) has been read. You should
quote theory in such a way that it supports the Table you produce.
5.0 Return on Assets Forecast:
Based on the industry analysis you have completed, perform an ROA for Home Pharmaceuticals based on their expected
forecasted growth from 2014 to 2017. To complete this exercise you will need to also refer to the Forecasted operating
profit and assets schedule. Refer to the Template in the Home Pharmaceuticals case to complete this exercise.
