Contemporary European History

In both the East and the West, the European generation that won the Second World War was optimistic about the future and attempted to rebuild Europe in a new form and for the benefit of all after 1945. Did they succeed? How did the young people of the 1950's and 1960's feel about this new Europe, their experiences, and the new world order? Did they agree things were better and those problems had been solved? Yes or no and explain why. (Explain the new European culture and Cold War world then discuss issues that the 1968'ers, Mods, Teddy Boys, and other dissidents reacted against.) (Use Dr Strangelove, The World at War, We Are The Lambeth Boys, and Bloody Sunday films as well as books Levy's Ready Steady Go!, Gilbert's Cold War Europe, Kurlansky's 1968: The Year that Rocked the World for inspiration)
