Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Although not new to literature for adults, illustrations play an important part in The
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and add to our understanding of Christopher's character and his
disability and the illustrations in the graphic novel, Wrinkles provides readers with a depiction of life with
Alzheimer’s that exceeds depersonalized medical writing. Additionally, scholar Shannon Walters in “Graphic
disruptions” argues that “The study of comics is an important part of the project of critiquing normative
assumptions underlying multimodality and composition […] disability can productively disrupt normative
expectations about the typical composition process” (174). In an essay of a minimum of 1500-2000 words
consider the illustration in both the ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’ and ‘Wrinkles’ and how
they provide the reader with personal and poignant accounts of life with a body that exceeds the “norm” and
challenges stereotypical representations.
