Data Analysis

Question 1: Use the data provided in the Excel workbook entitled “Ongoing project (part 6)” to create a business dashboard using Microsoft Excel. The first worksheet in the workbook, called “Question 1 - Data”, contains Sonic Selections order information. Create informative graphs and charts using Excel’s graphing functions, and consolidate all the information onto one worksheet to create a business dashboard. Your workbook may contain a number of worksheets that you use to organise the data and create tables and charts, but you will only be marked on the business dashboard you put together. The dashboard should appear in the worksheet called “Answer 1 - Business dashboard”. Create a business dashboard for an audience of your choice, using whatever aspects of the data you find most important. You will be marked on the following aspects of your business dashboard: • Dashboard layout and organisation: Be sure to plan your dashboard and components before you start to build it, to ensure that you make the most of your dashboard screen. • Appropriateness of dashboard in context: Be sure to consider your intended audience and then select the type of information they will be interested in. • Formatting and style: Use the best-practice guidelines to choose the most appropriate font, colours, and language, and ensure that the style will speak to the intended audience. • Data quality and analysis: You are required to prepare and clean your data before building the required dashboard components, and ensure that it is appropriately organised to create meaningful charts and graphs. • Charts and graphs: Ensure that all the graphs and charts included in the dashboard meet the best-practice standards, and that the most appropriate type of graph is selected for the type of data. Question 2: Based on the dashboard you have created for Question 1, write an essay explaining the purpose and target audience of the dashboard, and justify your dashboard design decisions. Your essay should be between 350 and 500 words long. Be sure to address the following aspects of your business dashboard in your answer: • The purpose of the dashboard (strategic, tactical, operational, or any combination of the three). • The intended audience, and the type of information portrayed. • A brief description of each of the reporting components and what information they portray. • The use of colours, fonts, and other formatting styles, as well as the particular terminology used. • The insights can you gather from your dashboard.
