Data: This project will use the Human Development data file provided with your text and available on StatCrunch. The file has data for 39 countries on six variables. (NOTE: The data appearing in this file is from several years ago, so these numbers do not reflect the current state of affairs.) The following two variables will be used in the project: • • internet = percentage of population that uses the Internet GDP = gross domestic product in trillions of dollars Using StatCrunch: Log on to MyStatLab and • • • • • select StatCrunch select data sets from your textbook select Human Development in the left hand column list of data sets select the Stat button in the toolbar and Regression > Simple Linear enter and select the appropriate values for each model indicated below. Assignment: Using the StatCrunch software, construct a linear regression model with GDP as explanatory variable (predictor) and internet as response variable. Your report should include: a) the equation for the regression line b) an interpretation in context for the y-intercept a, if it is meaningful. If not, explain why. c) an interpretation in context of the slope b d) interpretations of r and r^2 e) a scatterplot of the data with a plot of the regression line. Give a brief summary of what the plot explains. f) predictions of Internet use for a country with GDP 30 trillion dollars and for Japan, whose GDP is 25.13 trillion dollars. Your project report must be typed and double-spaced. Answers, summaries, and interpretations should, of course, be written in complete, grammatically-correct sentences. Be sure to turn your project in on time at the start of class, Monday, July 20.
