3. Opportunity identification & evaluation

This section involves using the information from the situation analysis conducted in part one to identify and evaluate any opportunity(s) for the product or brand to improve its position in the
market and evaluate such opportunities in terms of the current status of the brand and the ability of the company to take advantage of such opportunities. Identification and evaluation of
opportunities will entail using the methods and techniques of ‘opportunity identification and evaluation’ covered in the lectures and through personal research.
Section two: Identification and analysis of potential new product opportunities
This section involves the identification and evaluation of potential new product opportunities available to the company in the market in which the selected product competes. Such new development
opportunities could be either new segments or product forms within the market where the brand competes, an extension of the current product into a new segment or a line extension of the current
product to meet an identified and evaluated opportunity. A full description and rationale will be required for the new development opportunity and for the ability and desirability of the company to
take advantage of such an opportunity. Methods and techniques of new product development opportunities should be used as discussed in the lectures and through personal research.
Section three: Adjustment of the brand or product mix
Having identified and evaluated opportunities for the current product or brand to improve its position in the market and potential for new product opportunities, the relevant marketing mix will
need to be adjusted and established.
This section involves detailing what adjustments need to be made to the current marketing mix to meet the opportunities that have been identified. It involves establishing the marketing mix for a
product or brand to take advantage of the new development opportunity that has been identified. In addition any changes to a product or brand’s mix will need to be monitored. This section will need
to detail how any changes to the mix are to be assessed and monitored once such changes have been made.

Section four: Evaluation of changes to current organisational operations
Any change that is made to the mix for an existing product or brand may require changes to operational factors in the company. Any new development opportunity that a company wishes to pursue may
also require changes to operational factors in a company.
This section should identify and evaluate what, if any, changes need to be made to current operational factors and areas in the company as well as the feasibility of making such changes. Below are
questions to assist you in this process:
What are the changes needed to current operations in relation to viable marketing opportunities? Identify and document the changes that the current business would need to go through to take
advantage of the viable opportunities you have identified.
