Essay Proposal Plan

1) Drawing on theories of the posthuman, explore relations between humans and non-humans in two primary texts we have studied this semester.

2) Drawing on theories of the posthuman, explore the tension between the animate and the inanimate in two primary texts we have studied this semester.

3) Drawing on theories of the weird, and/or the eerie, explore the threshold between the human and the nonhuman in two primary texts we have studied this semester.

4) Drawing on relevant theory, explore how the uncanny manifests in two texts we have studied this semester.

5) Drawing on theories of the public and private spheres, analyse the interplay between internal and external spaces in two primary texts we have studied this semester.

6) Drawing on relevant literary theories, identify narrative techniques (like stream of consciousness, framing devices, etc) in two primary texts we’ve studied this semester to explore the dynamic between the inner and outer worlds of the characters.

7) Drawing on relevant theory, explore concepts of alienation and belonging across two primary texts we have studied this semester.

8) Identify the way the ‘Death Drive’ manifests in two primary texts we’ve studied this semester.

9) Drawing on relevant literary theories around speculative fiction, identify and explore the way two primary texts we’ve studied this semester expose and critique the socio-political context in which each was written in order to inform and/or transform our thinking.

10) Drawing on one of the theories that we have explored over the course of the unit, develop your own essay question which addresses two primary texts we’ve studied this semester.
