Gender and the Arts

    1. How have ideas from Second-Wave feminism influenced contemporary art and art-worlds? You can use the examples in the chapter, but use your own words. 2. Feminist artists often explicitly refer to gender and gender inequalities in their work. Provide at least one example from popular culture in which questions of gender inequality or identity are openly addressed. How does this work(s) and their audiences differ from or resemble the examples discussed in the chapter? Be specific. Provide a link. 3. Today, many commentators, artists, celebrities and other people actually question the idea of "binary" (male/female) gender identities. These new ideas have led to many cultural shifts, such as adopting new gender pronouns ("they" for people who don't want to adhere to binary norms, asking people to identify their preferred gender pronoun). How have artists (here you could refer to art world artists or popular culture) responded to this trend? Can you think of any specific examples? If not, do some research.
