This chapter provides the overview of genre studies and media studies in terms of its intellectual history, key terminology, core questions and means. Amada Ann Klein chronologically introduces the development of genre studies by explicating different scholarsâ arguments, films, and the inter relationship between them. In addition, she succinctly uses numerous typical examples to further explain the core questions and terminology of genre studies. Furthermore, the article successfully applies those key terms to the kissing cycle case study. The structuralist and ideological approaches indicated in this resource can be used in the essay to further distinguish the different impacts of ritual and transmission view.
