Group Games and Exercises
Group games and exercises are a useful tool for moving groups through the various stages or phases of group development. For example, icebreakers are often used to move groups through the “forming stage”, in which participants get acquainted, set some ground rules, and establish roles. Sometimes, games and exercises are designed to help manage conflict and move groups from the “storming stage” to the “norming” and/or “performing” stages. Here are some useful resources in group work. Review the links below, and find one that you can practically use. Present a brief description of the icebreaker, game, or exercise and discuss how you might apply it in a group setting.
