Based on student ID numbers, all students will be assigned to write a 200-word analysis of one character from each of the four plays. Each analysis must utilize the Sample Character Analysis page of the syllabus and consider that each major character has a flaw in his or her personality (i.e. pride, naiveté, selfishness, dishonesty, weakness, etc.). These drama reports should focus on your characters’ major flaws, how these flaws affect their choices and actions, if you think the characters ultimately recognize where they went wrong, and if you think they have recognized any ownership of the consequences of their actions. Students must then state what they believe to be the moral or message that the playwright wants readers to come to through an understanding of the assigned character(s). Students must reference how the theme of the play is delivered through the character, and most importantly what specific quotes, passages, events, or relationships help you to decipher the playwright’s message.
