Histogram of demands
you will review the 'Semester Project Instructions' on page 325. Upon thorough review, you will then complete 3, 4, and 5.
We will use MS Project again this week. Below are some tips that you can use to complete the exercises.
For problem #3, you just enter resources for your tasks in the Gantt chart view. For problem #4, you change the view to "Resource Graph". For #5, you have to level your resources. Pages 316 and 317 will show you have to level resources.
Review pages 311 - 318. Following the steps on those pages will help you understand how to enter resources in MS Project. Feel free to reach out again if you trouble.
Additional Information:
3. Gantt chart with resource assignments
-This is your normal task breakdown - the default view in MS Project. Enter your project tasks in MS Project. Make sure to assign a resource name (person) to each task. Again, make sure your view is the Gantt Chart view.
4. Histogram of demands on each key participant’s time
- Change your view from Gantt Chart to Resource sheet view. Make sure all your tasks have resources (person) assigned.
- Collapse the outline level so that only the resources are visible and the assignments are hidden. Adjust the timescale in the grid to days.
- Select the work from the earliest date to the last date by using shift, right arrow on the keyboard, then ctrl-c to copy it all, then paste it all in a blank EXCEL file, leaving some blank rows at the top. Type in the first date in the row above the firstwork data cell and use shift, right arrow to select all the way to the end of the data, then fill series to input all of the dates. Use the replace function to delete all of the "h" from the cells with the work in them. Then select all of the data and choose the stacked column graph.
5. Plan for resolving resource overload.
- Click Resource -> Leveling Options to open Resource Leveling Options (On the Resources Tab in MS Project)
- Select “Level All” to level all resources in all tasks within the project plan.
