The Conversation for English 102 is a 300-word overview of the inquiry question, along with an introduction to the "conversation" into which you have become immersed. Please first reiterate your inquiry questions and discuss the context of your question and to what sources you've been drawn - and where (ex. local news, Akron Beacon, etc. plus Research database [title]). Next, identify three sources that you have been reading, and state the claim of each using 25-50 words, describing the context of the conversation that the source's claim takes place within.
A sample looks like this:
Inquiry Q: How do jobs in the gig economy offer workers more flexibility in scheduling, workplace, thus creating a stable workplace in an open work environment?
Context: “Gig economy” is a term used by many economists to describe an economic environment in which 40-hour-a-week jobs with paid benefits and time off are no longer the structure that most companies use for their workforce. Instead, employees become contractors who can for the most part make their own schedules – assuming that those schedules meet the employer’s needs. As contractors, employees will be responsible for benefits that most American workers have come to assume are part of their compensation packages: health care, paid vacation time, and so on.
Conversation: From what I've read so far, the gig economy seems beneficial to a very specific set of workers – those who have highly developed skills that are highly in demand (Source, etc.). As Smith et al argues [another source], high end programmers, for example, might find the gig economy to their liking. Other workers, as Jones notes [third source], particularly those who work blue collar jobs that do not require a lot of expensive training to acquire, will not earn enough income to make up the loss of benefits.
