Importance of ethical qualitative research design and practice
This week, we focused on the importance of ethical qualitative research design and practice (VDH, ch. 4;
TCPS), from research conducted with participants, in Indigenous communities, and in more unobtrusive
contexts. We also heard a bit about unethical dimensions to some medical and social science research, and
how the key principles of ethics codes emerged through these bad examples.
With all this being said, in this week's forum activity, I'd like you to consider the potential perspectives of
research participants working with qualitative researchers. You may envision this from your own perspective
(e.g., if you were part of the research) or from another's perspective.
Question: Which ethical principle do you think is most important to ensure in research? Why? Please refer
to and define one of the principles outlined in the TCPS-2, Ch. 4 of the textbook. Approximate length of your
answer should be around 150-200 words. Please provide correct in-text citations for the source that is used,
along with a full reference at the end of the post :)
