A researcher was interested studying ways to encourage students to be more likely to volunteer their time helping out with community service projects. She created an experiment to determine whether educating students about the health benefits of community volunteering would influence their likelihood of volunteering to participate in a community service project. Two hundred students were randomly assigned to one of the following two groups. Students in the âVideo-Presentationâ group watched a video presentation titled, âVolunteering Can Be Good For Your Health.â This video described physical and mental health benefits associated with community volunteering. After watching the video, each student was given the opportunity to sign-up to volunteer 2 hours of his/her time on a community service project. Students in the âNo-Presentationâ group did not watch the video. Each student was, however, given the opportunity to sign-up to volunteer 2 hours of his/her time on a community service project. In each of the groups, the researcher counted up the number of students who signed-up to volunteer for the community service project. The results of the study are shown in the graph below. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS BASED ON THE SCENARIO ABOVE. #1. Identify the dependent variable in this study. Explain why this variable is the dependent variable. #2. Identify the independent variable in this study. Explain why this variable is the independent variable. #3. Interpret the findings shown in the graph and make a conclusion based on your interpretation. #4. Using concepts from the social psychology chapter of your textbook (chapter 12), describe two additional factors that might also influence a personâs willingness to volunteer for community service. For each concept, 1) explain how this factor may influence whether or not a person may volunteer to participate in a community project and 2) cite the page number(s) where this factor is discussed in the textbook FORMAT GUIDELINES: Typed: Times New Roman, font size 12 pt.
