âMany companies may not take such simple steps, thoughâand employees perceive it. A study last year of nearly 1,400 U.S.-based employees commissioned by FM Global found that 75 percent of workers felt their employers were not well prepared for a natural disaster. If the workers are correct, many of those companies will not survive should a catastrophe occur. The U.S. Department of Labor statistics indicate 40 percent of American businesses never reopen after a natural disaster.â
