Group Project
Choose any four sites (depending on instructor) of the same industry from Qatar or GCC or worldwide region (preferably one from Qatar, GCC and world respectively), for example major shopping centers or any retailers that you frequent often in Qatar or GCC. Evaluate the web sites based on the criteria given below and write a report. Start your assignment with the introduction of the companies of the websites (Maximum 2 pages of introduction).
Please note: To avoid being overly influenced by appearance, you will need to take a couple of days to complete this assignment responsibly. You might want to take a look at one or more of the many sites that deal in detail with evaluation and rating of web sites.
Things to look for and think about in a web site:
? Is the title informative?
? Are any illustrations appropriate and informative rather than being distractions?
? Is the layout attractive, consistent, and easy to navigate?
? Is there a concise introduction with a summary of the site’s purpose?
? Are there multiple links from the introductory page to the main sub-topics?
? Is the text large enough to read easily and does it contrast with any background colors?
? Are the linked sub-topics developed well?
? Are the sub-topics linked in turn to other sites that provide reliable and relevant information?
? Do the links work?
? How objective is the website? Is a particular viewpoint presented in the website? If so, what is the viewpoint? If not, give evidence of how the website covers more than one viewpoint. Be sure to state what viewpoints are covered. Does the website present
? Facts
? Opinions
? Both facts and opinions
? Perhaps most importantly, in your judgment, have you learned a little or a lot of useful information from the site?
? Do you think the overall message of the site is biased or is based on opinion rather than evidence?
Note: Each group has to search different sources and add at least four evaluation criteria of web evaluation in their project (other than the above ones).
Entrepreneurship: As an entrepreneur working in a newly started business in the same industry, what will be your recommendations and major steps for new website of this company? The above analysis can be a base for your recommendations.
