You are a forensic scientist working for the Road Accident Investigation Service. On a dry sunny afternoon, you were called by Victoria Police to investigate a car accident that happened outside of
Victoria University in Footscray. The collision took place on the corner of Ballarat Rd and Hoadley Crt. On arrival, you noticed two cars, in contact with each other and positioned on the west
bound lane of Ballarat Rd. The two cars are a Mitsubishi Outlander Aspire and an Audi A3 Sportback. Both are 2014 models.
Upon arrival you received a briefing from the police officer present who had already taken statements from both drivers. Both drivers dispute that they were at fault. The Audi driver was driving on
Ballarat Rd, heading east towards the city. The driver claims that the Mitsubishi had suddenly driven onto the intersection. He braked, but the car did not stop in time leading to the crash. The
Mitsubishi driver claims that he was already in the intersection on a green light waiting to make a right turn on to Ballarat Rd. The light had just turned red when the Audi collided into him and
he had not yet cleared the intersection. He claims that the Audi driver was speeding and had jumped the green light.
You have been asked to investigate the accident to determine which of the drivers, or both were at fault and make appropriate recommendations for prosecution to Victoria Police?.
