Is rapid economic growth in the absence of western style of democracy a paradox? It is generally believed that democracy creates better opportunities for both economic growth and cultural progress than authoritarian regimes. Nevertheless, China has managed to grow its economy at an unprecedented rate over the last three decades. Does democracy help or hinder economic growth?
