IT applications development

Question 1:
Saoirse plc is a long-established department store with 20 high-street shops across the country and an active
and high-volume on-line sales channel (SaorNet). Saoirse has decided to modernise its central retail system,
and at the same time to upgrade significantly its web presence. The requirements for the central retail system
(CRS) are well known and understood. However, Saoirse’s board would like to see more innovative thinking in
the design of the public-facing website.
You are Saoirse’s IT applications development manager and you decide to build new applications for both
rather than buying off the shelf software. You plan to develop CRS following a waterfall methodology and to
use an agile methodology (Scrum) for the SaorNet development.
a) Describe the rationale for your choice and identify the risks of using Waterfall and Agile development
methodologies for the different projects.
b) Describe how you will gather and document requirements for the SaorNet upgrade and illustrate with a
diagram how you will approach the development activities. Describe the main Scrum ceremonies, noting
purpose, frequency and attendance for each.
c) What roles will be important for you to incorporate in the SaorNet project team? Identify the main skills that
the key role members should have.
