Part one: Analyzing the main character

In this first part of the assignment you will analyze the main character’s progression through the book. What is the person like
at the beginning ofthe novel, what are his/her main characteristics, and what changes can you see? Use two quotations to
describe how the character evolves, and explain in your own words how these quotations support your theory. This part
should consist of about 350 words, quotations not included.

Part two: Analyzing the main theme

What is the main theme ofyour novel, i.e. what is the message the author is trying to convey? Find two quotations that
demonstrate clearly the importance ofthe theme you have chosen. Explain why you have chosen these quotations and in what
way they demonstrate your chosen theme. This part should consist of about 350 words, quotations not included.

Part three: The Novel’s Literary qualities

Discuss what qualities this novel shows that you believe would have contributed to the author’s Man Booker Prize. Include at
least one quotation which demonstrates your point. This part should consist of about 200 words, quotations not included.
