Media self-analysis

Pick ONE social media platform you use, such as Twitter, or Weibo, or Instagram, or TikTok, or Facebook, or Wechat, or other, and explain your own media use habits and practices on the platform. This media self-analysis should critically engage the three themes in Module 3 including algorithms, aspects of surveillance, and how you navigate content and conduct online. You may consider these questions as guidelines to help you think critically about your own social media use. These are not questions to be definitively answered; they are to prompt your own critical self-reflection in discussing social media in the context of the themes in Module 3. Your discussion should flow together in essay style. How do you use social media in your everyday life? How is your everyday social communication a type of surveillance and why? How do you verify stories, memes, information, and news sources as you navigate your own social media feeds and timeline? How might algorithms be shaping what you see and read? Can you engage more actively to expand your interests beyond your own social media feeds and timeline? What data is collected by the social media company about you and your activities? Where does the data go and how is it used?
