Give feedback to peer 1 and peer 2
Peer 1 Discuss your methods for locating the global concerns that you focused on in your peer review, and for selecting the tools that you guided your peer to use in your feedback.
To conduct a proper peer review I used the tools provided by the course but I also went online and discovered some tips on how effectively and accurately conduct a peer review. Of course most of the information related to peer reviews focused on larger manuscripts, but you can also use them on smaller ones as well. One thing that I wanted to ensure was that my critique was as professional and helpful as possible. I wanted to ensure that the feedback that I gave was useful and hopefully can help them become better academic writers. I tried to think of how I wanted to receive my feedback from my fellow learners. The Association of University Presses has one of the best peer review guides available in my opinion. It helps you understand why peer reviews are done and the things to keep in mind when you’re conducting one.
Did you make discoveries about organization and development by reviewing the work of another?
One thing that I discovered is that everyone writes things differently. Some learners are more detailed while other learners are straight to the point. I also noticed that even though we use the APA 6th Edition as a guide, not everyone structures or organizes their paper in that exact order. I also noticed how easy it is to get sidetracked when you’re writing and how important it is to have some type of outline or guide to help you stay on track.
How does this experience change your approach to your writing going forward?
This experience will definitely remind me to be more aware of the cohesiveness of the paper that I write. You want to make sure that there is a certain flow to the work that you write. You want to make sure that each paragraph sets the reader up for the next one and so forth. Structure, using the correct words and overall organization will definitely have a higher place on my list when I’m writing.
Share those observations and any other discoveries you made
One observation I made was that telling another learner about their work was more difficult than I anticipated. Even though I am able to give progress reports or critiques to my subordinates with the blink of an eye, doing this with a fellow learner was somewhat complex. Maybe because I feel like I am not an expert in this area enough to tell someone about their work if that notion makes sense.
