Multilateralism

        Multilateralism has shaped treaty-making over the past few decades, and the traditional inter-State mechanism for fostering legally binding international agreements seems to have lost prominence. Relying on the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow (COP26) as an illustration, highlight some of the new parameters of international treaty-making: among others, the move from inter-State treaties to treaties between States and international organizations or the shift from a traditional intergovernmental conference to treaty negotiation within international organizations.
