CONTENT: The society presented in Never Let Me Go is a dystopia. That is, there is something seriously wrong with this society (a dystopia contrasts with a utopia, where theoretically is an ideal society). In this short paper you will analyze this society and act as an informed social critic or even “prophet”. Carefully apply the learning and relevant content of this course as you engage Ishiguro’s work. Here are a few additional thoughts that might help you focus and help your short paper be the best it can be. I could have asked you to critique any society, including our own. But instead I have provided you with a "make believe" society - the society presented in Never Let Me Go - to focus your skills. Imagine yourself transported to that society, and as you familiarize yourself with it, you realize: “Wait…something stinks to high heaven… something's rotten.” Employ the relevant elements of our course-content to critique and criticize that society. Or, to change the image a bit, imagine this society is a patient and you are a skilled and informed doctor. Diagnose the condition, write the prescription, and warn the patient about the consequences if the patient fails to take their medicine and reform their ways.
