Noam Chomsky’s work as it relates to the major foundations of Philosophy.

Investigate Noam Chomsky’s work as it relates to the major foundations of Philosophy. (Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, Aesthetics, Politics) Context will be required in your review of their work for their socio-economic and political time period. (ie: Racism and Sexism being represented in the work as a representation of the time or place in which they lived) Format: Your essay should cover the philosopher’s major ideas. When ever you are presenting context of their life, it should be directly related to their philosophical ideas. IE: Anti-Religious philosophy being caused by intensely strict and dogmatic religious childhood. The same idea should apply to schools they attend, jobs they had and familial relations. All points should relate back to their core philosophical beliefs. Stay away from biographical points that are irrelevant to your philosopher. IE: We don’t need to know about who they married if they rarely wrote about marriage, parenting or gender relations. You may, for formatting purposes, focus on one key area of philosophy in each paragraph (Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, Aesthetics, Politics). Some areas may have so many ideas that you will want to devote multiple paragraphs to it. Many ideas will cross over multiple areas and therefore will be more integrated in their analysis. You should not be presenting the classic 5 paragraph essay. This paper should be far more substantial and professional than that. Citation: Each paragraph will need your own interpretation of their philosophical ideas. You must properly cite the information that you obtained for their ideas. You do not need to cite your opinion or analysis of those ideas. Example: Point 1 of their ideas on politics over 3 sentences requires citation right after the information. Point 2 on how this information relates to another philosopher over 3 sentences requires citation on the other philosopher. Point 3 is your analysis of the original work over 3-4 sentences and the comparison you made does not require citation. Total citation for a single paragraph of 9-12 sentences in this example = 2 Citation Methods Standard Chicago Style Footnoting should be used in the following format including punctuation: Author last name Author First name, Title. Publisher; Location, Date. Page Number For Websites: Author last name Author First name, Title. Web URL, Date. This can also be expressed as End Noting if necessary. Subsequent uses of the same author’s work can be completed with just the author’s last name and page number. If the exact same citation is used 2 times in a row or more the term IBID is appropriate in the citation, meaning “as above”. Every paragraph will need at least 1-3 citations. Marking Structure: Standard U level writing conventions will be expected. Stay away from colloquialisms (back in the day) and informalities. Watch the use of tense and stay away from personal pronouns in reference to yourself. Strong clear statements of analysis that the reader will understand as your opinion/analysis will serve better. Jr. level writing structures of the 5 paragraph essay and transitional words like “firstly and secondly” should be avoided. Paragraphs should be between 9-12 sentences in order to stay on a focused topic.
