North Korean History
Using our readings, supplementary library materials, lectures, and in-class discussions as a basis, examine North Korean history through the lens of an important historical event or phenomenon. Please refer to your syllabus for potential topics (i.e. weekly and monthly topic headings) or create your own. Make sure it is a topic that is phenomenally interesting to you, so do not hesitate to choose such themes like North Korean film in the 1970s, the DPRK's emerging make-up industry, Dennis Rodman's "bro-diplomacy" with Kim Jong-Un, sports culture in the DPRK, and so on.
Write a polished short research paper of at least 1500 words. Your paper should have an introduction outlining the issue, several explanatory paragraphs with evidence, and a conclusion, plus a bibliography at the end of 5-8 sources, of which 1-2 can be those we've consulted in class. Your paper should include specific examples and quotes from both primary and secondary sources to support your examination of your topic, while using proper citation methods learned in class. Please refer to your library session with Mr. Adam Beauchamp for help on primary and secondary sources as well as citation. The Purdue OWL website also shows how to properly cite references.
