Both novels which we've read- The Plot Against America by Philip Roth, and Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, either implicitly or explicitly critique the limitations of traditional history as a means of understanding the past. By manipulating the conventions of fiction and narrative, these text suggest that something is gained by a fictional, or overtly narrative approach to the past.
