Oligarchy than a democracy
In 2017, Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter criticized American foreign policy and domestic affairs, arguing that money in politics makes the United States more like an "oligarchy than a democracy." Others draw parallels between what they saw as authoritarian tendencies in both Russia under Putin and the U.S. under Trump. Drawing carefully on your answers to part one of this essay, evaluate the insinuation that the U.S. is an authoritarian regime. In what ways might critics of American domestic and foreign policy be right? In what ways might they be wrong? (You do not need to draw explicit comparisons to Russia in this part of the essay, although you may do so if you find it useful in answering the question.)
