Opioid Use Disorder Program
Scenario #1: You are charged with the task of convincing Mr. Doubtful, the director of
large Adolescent Opioid Use Disorder Program in Washington, DC the value of program
evaluation. As the potential evaluator, you have decided to address Mr. Doubtful’s concerns
through the submission of a written response.
Your task here is to make a convincing case to Mr. Doubtful why he should allocate 20% of the project’s limited operating budget for evaluation activities.
Write a write a letter to Mr. Doubtful. In your letter, clearly cover the items below:
the varied functions and potential importance of the evaluation for his program
the politics of the process and realistic pitfalls to overcome
your evaluation approach and the nature of the relationship you plan to establish with the program staff and other relevant partners/participants
the things what you will take into consideration before the evaluation is conducted and during the process of conducting the work
the kinds of materials/information that you would likely request from the Director
and/or program staff in order to plan and implement a useful evaluation
You/your (hypothetical) company’s qualifications to perform this external
evaluation
any other relevant information that will convince Mr. Doubtful that you have the knowledge, skills and temperament to successfully complete the evaluation
AND that this undertaking will benefit multiple partners of his program (e.g., staff, clients, family members, the community)
Scenario #2: Taking into consideration what you have learned in this class this semester, design
an evaluation for the following project
Case Description
A 12-month STEM broadening participation project located in a diverse ward within the District of Columbia (largely Hispanic, Middle Eastern and African American) with four broad goals:
to increase low income African American, Middle Eastern, and Latino middle school students’ knowledge of careers in computer technology and other STEM fields
to elevate low income African American, Middle Eastern, and Latino middle school students’ interest in mathematics, science, engineering, and computing technology
to increase low income African American, Middle Eastern, and Latino middle school students’ success in advanced mathematics and science courses
to increase parents’ ability to support the STEM success of their children
Respond to the items below imagining yourself as the evaluator for this project. Clearly label your response for each task
1. Create four SMART project objectives (one for each broad goal)
2. Design a logic model for this project (I have attached the logical model it should be the same format)
3. Write a statement regarding the important role evaluation can play in this project
4. Create four process evaluation questions and four outcomes evaluation questions ( see example it should be the same)
5. Design a data map for this project (including a timeline) ( I have attached the data map I created it should be the same)
6. As the evaluator, write a statement of things you would consider in designing the evaluation, particularly how the Program Evaluation Standards and AEA’s Ethical Principles for Evaluators could serve as a guidepost (give specific examples) ( see attached articles)
7. Describe two possible designs to answer your evaluation questions (one must be experimental and the other can be quasi-experimental, mixed methods, etc.); diagram, explain, and provide rationale ( see examples by the end of the document )
