Performance on the Clinical Judgment Exam (CJE)

Analyze their performance on the Clinical Judgment Exam (CJE) Readiness and reflect on areas of opportunity and strategies to promote NCLEX-RN® success and transition into practice. The student will apply the priority concept (topic) to evidence-based professional practice upon which nurses have the ability to resolve or have a positive impact. There is a focus on the healthcare disparities of the individual, as well as ethical and legal implications to professional practice. The student will discuss how an interdisciplinary approach promotes quality improvement for the patient and evidence-based professional practice, driving positive outcomes.

Priority CONCEPT topic to use: Communication

In this paper, the student will provide a detailed description of the relationship between the category from the NCLEX-RN® examination blueprint, the priority concept (topic) selected based on assessment performance, and professional practice.

Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to analyze performance on the Clinical Judgment Exam (CJE) Readiness assessment, focusing specifically on the priority concept of Communication, and to reflect on actionable strategies for promoting NCLEX-RN® success and effective transition into professional practice. This analysis will establish a direct correlation between proficiency in therapeutic and professional communication and superior patient outcomes, evidence-based practice, and adherence to legal and ethical standards in healthcare.

The priority concept of Communication is fundamentally aligned with the NCLEX-RN® examination blueprint category, Assurance of a Safe and Effective Care Environment. The relationship between this blueprint category and communication is direct and essential, as effective verbal and nonverbal exchange between caregivers, patients, and interdisciplinary team members is the single most critical factor in preventing medication errors, ensuring accurate care coordination, and maintaining a culture of safety. In professional practice, the nurse’s ability to communicate clearly—whether during a handoff report or when clarifying a provider's order—is the primary mechanism by which a safe environment is upheld, thus making it an indispensable element of clinical judgment and NCLEX readiness (Joint Commission, 2022).

II. Importance

The primary importance of effective communication to professional practice is its function as the foundation for all clinical activities, serving as the connective tissue that binds diagnostic findings to treatment plans and ensures continuity of care across settings (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality [AHRQ], 2023). For the patient population, communication is paramount to health status because it directly impacts patient engagement, adherence to treatment regimens, and the patient's perceived quality of care, ultimately influencing recovery rates and long-term health management (O’Daniel & P. R. P. , 2005).
