Philosophy

Question 1) What is philosophy? What do philosophers do? Having answered these questions, consider whether you think philosophy is relevant and/or important. If so, why? If not, why do you think it is required by the University. Finally, indicate what kinds of things you think you will be studying in our course. Question 2) Try and offer brief responses to each of these: a) Who is Anaxagoras of Clazomenae? Why does Socrates mention him in his speech in the "Apology"? b) What role does Chaerephon play in the "Apology"? c) Why is the text called the "Apology"? Is Socrates apologizing for something? If so, what? If not, explain the title. d) On the internet, do a search for Alcibiades (sometimes spelled "Alkibiades.") Tell us one interesting thing about Alcibiades, especially if it relevant for our understanding of Socrates and/or the "Apology."
